Komsomol Spotlight

(Komsomol’skii prozhektor), the name of a movement organized by the Komsomol in 1962; a mass form of participation by Soviet youth in social control. Its chief tasks are the investigation and use of production reserves, scrutiny of the observance of legislation regarding young people, and development of economic initiative, personal responsibility, and administrative skills in young people. Organized into posts and staffs, the Komsomol Spotlight conducts inspections and cooperates with the people’s control agencies and the press.

The participants in the work of Komsomol Spotlight are hundreds of thousands of Komsomol members—industrial and office workers, kolkhoz workers, and specialists whose activities in the organization are directed by the Komsomol committees. Periodically, the Komsomol Spotlight conducts all-Union investigations of pressing problems of the national economy, including observance of the policy of economizing, raising the quality of production, introducing new technology, environmental protection, and improving the work of service enterprises. Functioning on the basis of initiative and independent action, disclosing shortcomings, working out constructive proposals, and achieving practical results, Komsomol Spotlight is an example of the development of Soviet democracy and of the extensive rights of young people in the sociopolitical life of the USSR. It is heir to the tradition and experience of the Komsomol Light Cavalry detachments.
