Komsomolets

 

an urban-type settlement, center of Komsomolets Raion, Kustanai Oblast, Kazakh SSR. Situated on the Toguzak River (Ob’ River basin) 10 km from the Toguzak railroad station on the Troitsk-Kustanai line and 130 km northwest of Kustanai. Population, 10,300 (1970). Komsomolets has a metal working plant and a poultry farm. There is also a technicum for mechanized agriculture.


Komsomolets

 

the northernmost and third largest island in the Severnaia Zemlia archipelago. It has an area of 9,006 sq km and elevations up to 780 m. Approximately 65 percent of the island is covered with glaciers. It is composed primarily of aleurolites, loams, and sands.


Komsomolets

 

(Mertvyi Kultuk), a narrow gulf off the northeastern shore of the Caspian Sea. In the 1940’s, in connection with a drop in the seawater level, most of the gulf had turned into an extensive saline area. Its area decreased from 15,000 sq km to 500 sq km, with depths not exceeding 1 m.
