Bavly

an urban-type settlement, center of Bavly Raion, Tatar ASSR. It is located in the area of the Bugul’ma-Belebei elevation, 25 km south of the Iutaza railroad station (on the Ul’ianovsk-Ufa line). Population, 14,700 (1968). There is extraction of petroleum and gas and a construction-materials plant. The first oil gusher in Tataria began to function in Bavly in 1946.
