Bauska
a city and administrative center in Bauska Raion, Latvian SSR. It is situated at the confluence of the Musha and Memele Rivers (they form the Lielupe) 66 km south of Riga. The nearest railroad station is Ietsava (26 km away). Population, 7,900 (1969). Bauska is the site of a fruit cannery and the Saule Textile Combine. A folk theater, an art museum, and a museum of local lore are located there. Bauska was first mentioned in 1443 and became a city in 1511. There are ruins of a 15th-16th-century castle.
