leukostasis

(loo″kō-stā′sĭs) [ leuko- + stasis] Obstruction of blood vessels by excessive numbers of immature white blood cells, esp. in patients who have leukemia. The excessive concentration of white blood cells increases the viscosity of the blood, causing it to turn into sludge in small vessels, such as those in the brain and the lung.
