Established: The Lower East Side Tenement Museum was chartered in 1988. On November 12, 1998, it was designated a National Historic Area affiliated with the National Park Service.

Special Features:The heart of the Tenement Museum is its tenement building at 97 Orchard Street, home to an estimated 7,000 people from 20 nations between 1863 and 1935.
