From 1780 to 1859, Kola was the administrative center of a district. Kolaa river in Murmansk Oblast, RSFSR. The Kola measures 83 km long and drains an area of 3,850 sq km. It flows out of Lake Kolozero, passes through Lake Pulozero, and empties into the Kola Gulf of the Barents Sea at the city of Kola. The river is fed primarily by snow; there is high water from May through July. The mean annual flow rate 8 km from the mouth is approximately 40 cu m/sec.
