Namakzar

Namakzar

a drainless salty depression in eastern Iran, in the Dasht-e Lut desert. Located at the eastern foot of the Kuh Banan Mountains, at an elevation of about 300 m, the depression is about 150 km long. In spring, when the rivers overflow, a shallow lake forms in the lower part of the depression. Sparse saltwort vegetation predominates. Along its western edge are a few oases.
