Letov, Aleksandr Mikhailovich
Born Nov 11 (24), 1911, in the village of Khomutovo, in what is now Kolomna Raion, Moscow Oblast. Soviet scientist in the field of the theory of control. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1968).
Letov graduated from the department of mathematics and mechanics of Moscow State University in 1937. In 1956 he began working at the Institute of Automation and Remote Control of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Letov has developed methods for constructing Liapunov functions for the solution of the problem of the stability of nonlinear regulated systems and has also developed the formulation and method of solution of the problem of the analytic design of optimal regulators. He has been awarded two orders and various medals.
