Nakhimov School

Nakhimov School

a secondary naval boarding school that prepares its students for entrance into higher naval schools.

Nakhimov schools were set up in the USSR between 1943 and 1945 in Leningrad, Riga, and Tbilisi for the education and training of sons of servicemen, partisans, workers, and kolkhoz members who died in the Great Patriotic War (1941–45). The Riga and Tbilisi Nakhimov schools were abolished in the 1950’s. The Leningrad Nakhimov School, which is still functioning, admits graduates of eight-year schools, 15 to 16 years of age, who pass competitive entrance examinations.
