Location:On LA 3042, 8 miles north of Ville Platte and 1.5 miles from the entrance to Chicot State Park (see separate entry).
Facilities:Herbarium, outdoor exhibits, trails (3 miles), restrooms.
Activities:Nature study, guided tours, interpretive programs.
Special Features:Established in 1961, the Louisiana State Arboretum was the firststate-supported arboretum in the United States. The arboretum offersvisitors a living botanical museum with natural growth and plantingsgrown for scientific or educational purposes. Trees, shrubs, andflowers are labeled for observation along an extensive network oftrails. Due to its great variation in topography, almost every type ofLouisiana vegetation, except coastal marsh and prairie, is representedon the site.
