Bad Ischl
a spa in Austria, on the Traun River (where the Ischl empties into it), east of Salzburg. It is situated at an altitude of 469 m. The climate is subalpine with a mean July temperature of 16° C and a mean January temperature of -0.7° C; the annual precipitation is about 700 mm. Various kinds of mineral waters are used as therapeutic agents. Water from the Ischl salt mine, highly saline (bittern) with a temperature of 12° C, water from two springs containing free hydrogen sulfide, and water from a spring containing sulfates are used for the baths. Water from the Maria Louisa spring (chloride-sodium water, 11.4° C) is used for drinking purposes; its flow rate is 36,000 liters a day. Persons suffering from diseases of the cardiovascular, respiratory, and digestive systems, diseases of the joints, metabolic disorders, and gynecological diseases are treated here.
