Knorre, Dmitrii Georgievich

 

Born July 28, 1926, in Leningrad. Soviet chemist and biochemist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1968).

Knorre graduated from the D. I. Mendeleev Moscow Chemical Engineering Institute in 1947. He was a student of N. N. Semenov. In 1961, Knorre became head of the Laboratory of the Chemistry of Nucleic Acids at the Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 1967 he was appointed dean of the department of natural sciences of the University of Novosibirsk. His main works deal with the kinetics of degenerate branching chain reactions, the kinetics and mechanism of peptide synthesis using carbodiimides, and the modification of nucleic acids by carbodiimides and alkylating reagents. Knorre has been awarded the order of the Badge of Honor.
