He studied at Harvard and Princeton and taught at Yale (1960–63) and the City University of New York (1967–84). He is best known for the study described in Obedience to Authority: An Experimental View (1974): Research subjects were ordered to administer "electric shocks" of varying intensity to people in another room; most did so on command, despite the simulated pain and apparent danger to their fellow subjects. |
