awareness-oriented structural therapy

awareness-oriented structural therapy

A psychological approach to mind/body medicine, which combines various structural bodywork techniques with “natural psychotherapy”.
AOST borrows components of various forms of bodywork, including connective-tissue therapy, deep-tissue massage, neuromuscular therapy, polarity therapy and structural integration; its psychological aspects are borrowed from Gestalt therapy, Hakomi therapy, meditation, present-centred awareness and therapy, psychosynthesis, and sensory awareness. AOST is believed by its advocates to improve balance, vitality, movement, dynamic interaction with gravity, metabolism, relieve pain, enhance mental clarity, release emotions, and ultimately lead to personal growth and transformation.
