Lotharingian Stage
Lotharingian Stage
(named after the province of Lotharingia in France), stratigraphic subdivision corresponding to the Upper Sinemurian. It is viewed by many stratigraphers as a substage of the Sinemurian stage of the Jurassic. It was identified by the French geologist G. E. Haug in 1911. A stratotypic section is composed of marl and ocherous limestone up to 50 m thick.
