Oscans
Oscans
(Latin Osci, Greek Opikoi, Opikes), the general name for the Italic tribes that inhabited southern and part of central Italy in the late second millennium B.C.
The Oscans spoke various dialects of Osco-Umbrian. The tribes conventionally known as Oscans were divided into three groups, namely, Northern Osean (Sabini, Paeligni, Marrucini, and others), Central Osean (Campani, Samnites, and others), and Southern Osean (Lucani, Locri, and others).
