Muiakan

Muiakan

 

a mountain range in Transbaikalia, in the Buriat ASSR, between the Muiakan River and the Muia River (a left-bank tributary of the Vitim). Elevation, 2,000–2,200 m; maximum elevation, 2,478 m. Length, 120 km. The Muiakan Range is composed of crystalline schists, gneisses, and igneous rocks. There are pronounced alpine forms in the axial part of the range. The Muiakan Range is covered with larch taiga to an elevation of 1,100–1,300 m. Above that there is a belt of dwarf stone pines that gives way to mountain tundra.
