MuhlenbergiaMuhlenbergiaa genus of plants of the family Gramineae. They are annual or perennial herbs with a panicled inflorescence. The spikelets are small and single-flowered. The membranous lemmas are blunt or pointed. There are about 100 species, distributed primarily in arid regions of North and South America; a few species are found in Afghanistan, Middle Asia, the Himalayas, East Asia, Java, and New Guinea. There are three species in the USSR. Muhlenbergia hügelii grows in damp, shady places in the Pamir-Alai and the Soviet Far East. M. japonica and M. curviaristata are also encountered in the Soviet Far East. In some regions of Asia, M. hügelii is grown for fodder.
