Leont’ev, Aleksei Fedorovich
Born Mar. 14 (27), 1917, in the village of Iakovtsevo (now in Vacha Raion, Gorky Oblast). Soviet mathematician. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970).
Leont’ev graduated from the University of Gorky in 1939 and worked there from 1948 to 1954. Between 1954 and 1971 he worked at the Institute of Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and at the Moscow Institute of Power Engineering. Since 1971 he has been working in the Bashkir branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. His principal studies are on approximation and interpolation of functions in a complex region, the theory of Dirichlet series and their generalizations, and differential equations of infinite order.
