Kniazhata

a designation in 15th to 17th century Russia for the descendants of the appanage princes (the Riurik and Gedimin families). In the 18th century the most prominent of the kniazhata, who were at one time among the boyars, became a titled part of the dvorianstvo (nobility or gentry).
