Kniazhaia Gora

the site of a fortified Slavic settlement of the 10th-13th centuries, located 6 km south of the city of Kanev (Ukrainian SSR) on the right bank of the Dnieper River. Excavations, conducted at the end of the 19th century and between 1958 and 1965, have revealed the remains of workshops and semisubterranean dwellings with pisé ovens. A large number of household items and tools were found. Twelve treasures of gold and silver articles (for the most part of local production) were discovered at different times. The settlement at Kniazhaia Gora perished as a result of war and fire, possibly during the Mongol-Tatar invasion in 1240. Researchers consider Kniazhaia Gora to be the remains of the city of Rodnen’ mentioned in the chronicles.
