Molodova
Molodova
a village on the right bank of the Dnestr River (in Sokiriany Raion, Chernovtsy Oblast, Ukrainian SSR), on the outskirts of which is located a group of Paleolithic sites. They were primarily investigated in the 1950’s and 1960’s by A. P. Chernysh. The most interesting sites are Molodova I (area, 400 sq m) and Molodova V (area, 900 sq m), where the remains of about 20 settlements of various periods (from the Mousterian culture to the Mesolithic period) have been investigated. Flint tools and articles made of bone and antler were found. In addition, the remains of an ancient Mousterian dwelling were discovered at Molodova I; the dwelling was constructed with the use of bones of mammoths, which have been dated to about 44,000 years ago by the radiocarbon method.
