lossless audio compression

lossless audio compression

(audio, compression)Any kind of audio compression in whichthe original signal and the decoded signal are bitwiseidentical. Lossless audio compression algorithms are usuallybased on a data compression algorithm like PKzip or gzipbut specialized for PCM audio data. The signal is dividedinto predictable tonal components and unpredictable noisycomponents. Tonal components are stored as coefficients of apredictor, the remaining signal is coded by a Rice,Huffman, or arithmetic coder.
