Mikhail Voronkov

Voronkov, Mikhail Grigor’evich

 

Born Dec. 6, 1921, in Orel. Soviet organic chemist; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970). Member of the CPSU since 1964.

Voronkov graduated from the University of Sverdlovsk in 1942. From 1944 to 1945 he worked at Leningrad University; from 1954 to 1961, at the Institute of Silicate Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR; and from 1961 to 1970, at the Institute of Organic Synthesis of the Academy of Sciences of the Latvian SSR. Since 1970 he has been director of the Irkutsk Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Voronkov’s main work is in the areas of organosilicate compounds (including physiologically active compounds) and organic sulfur compounds.
