(mōyĕn`dō), town (1993 pop. 26,724), S Peru, a port on the Pacific Ocean. Mollendo exports wool and has industries producing cement, textiles, canned fish, and cheese. It is also a popular beach resort.

city in southern Peru in Arequipa Department. Population, 26,000 (1962). Port on the Pacific Ocean. Linked by a railroad line with Cuzco. There is trading and processing of agricultural products from the surrounding region. These include grains, sugarcane, cotton, fruit, and products derived from livestock. Alpaca wool and silver ore concentrates are the primary exports. Mollendo is the terminus of a combined railroad and sea route from Peru to Bolivia and Argentina.
