medical review official

medical review official

A licensed physician who is qualified to evaluate laboratory drug test results within the context of federally mandated/non-mandated workplace drug testing programs. MROs serve as "gatekeepers", protecting the tested individual from a false accusation of illicit drug use when there is another medical explanation for the laboratory result (classically, consumption of poppy seed bagels resulting in a test positive for opium). At the same time, the MRO protects the employer by helping with policies and regulatory issues, as well as providing related services such as drug-test collections, breath-alcohol-testing services, co-ordination of laboratory services, laboratory performance testing, and preparing summary reports for employers.
