Mikhail Konovalov
Konovalov, Mikhail Alekseevich
Born May 21 (June 3), 1905; died in 1938. Soviet Udmurt writer. Member of the CPSU from 1929. Son of a poor peasant; born in the village of Akarshur, now in Mozhga Raion, Udmurt ASSR.
Konovalov published his first works in 1931. He wrote the first Udmurt novel about the working class, The Face With a Scar (1933, Russian translation, 1965). His historical novel Gaian (1936, Russian translation, 1967) dealt with Udmurt participants in the Pugachev movement. Konovalov’s other works include the play Victorious Force (1934) and the collections of stories for children The Target (1935) and Happy Generation (1935).
