Klimov, Aleksei Filippovich

 

Born Feb. 4 (16), 1878, in the village of Molchanovo, in present-day Bol’shoe Boldino Raion, Gorky Oblast; died June 11, 1940, in Moscow. Soviet veterinary anatomist; Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1940).

Klimov graduated from the Kazan Veterinary Institute in 1909. He became a professor of histology and embryology at the Novocherkassk Veterinary Institute in 1916, a professor of anatomy at the Moscow Veterinary Institute in 1921, and a professor at the Moscow Military Veterinary Academy in 1939. Klimov demonstrated the interrelation of organ structure and function and the biological characteristics of the organism. Together with A. I. Akaevskii, he compiled an original hand-book called The Anatomy of Domestic Animals (revised by Akaevskii), for the publication of which (1950–51) he was awarded the State Prize of the USSR (1952).
