Klein, Anne

Klein, Anne (Hannah) (b. Hannah Golofski)

(?1921–74) fashion designer; born in New York City. A student at the Traphagen School of Fashion, she started her career at age 15 as a free-lance sketcher in a wholesale fashion house. In 1948 she launched her Junior Sophisticates and in 1968 opened Anne Klein & Company. Named to the Coty American Fashion Awards Hall of Fame in 1971, she was known for her sophisticated, practical sportswear for young women and for recognizing the need for coordinated separates, matching blazers, skirts, and slacks.
