Klebsiellosis

an infectious disease of various species of animals.

The causative agents of klebsiellosis are capsular bacteria of the genus Klebsiella, which produce mastitides in swine, rhinitis in their young, fever and mastitides in cows, and pneumonia in their calves. Birds and wild ungulates also suffer from klebsielloses. Cases of klebsiellosis are recorded in many countries of the world. This is not done, however, in the USSR. The source of infection is diseased animals. The possibility of human infection from animals has not been established. Treatment of affected animals is symptomatic, chiefly with antibiotics. Klebsielloses are prevented by isolating diseased animals, destroying their carcasses, eliminating rodents, and disinfecting the animals living areas.
