a city, center of Kizyl-Arvat Raion, Krasnovodsk Oblast, Turkmen SSR. Situated in the foothills of the Kopetdag Mountain Range. Railroad station 219 km northwest of Ashkhabad. Population, 22,000 (1970). A train-repair plant, a creamery, and a carpet factory are located in the city. Kizyl-Arvat arose at the time of the construction of the Tashkent-Krasnovodsk railroad at the end of the 19th century; it has been a city since 1935.
