Lori Depression

 

a plain in the northern part of the Armenian Highlands, along the border with the Lesser Caucasus; located in the Armenian SSR. Formed by the surface of a lava sheet, the depression is framed by the Somkheti, Dzhavakheti, and Bazumi mountain ranges. Elevation, 1,000-1,800 m; length, approximately 50 km; width, 20-30 km. The Dzoraget River flows along the depression. The area has mountain steppes and fields of grain, sugar beets, and tobacco.
