Leib, Michael

(1760–1822) physician, U.S. representative/senator; born in Philadelphia. A surgeon, he served in the U.S. House of Representatives (Dem.-Rep., Pa.; 1799–1806) and U.S. Senate (1809–14). He was known for attacking his political opponents and their policies so fiercely that he ended up hurting his own party.
