Medical and Sanitary Section
a group of health care facilities in the USSR, serving the workers and office employees of industrial enterprises.
The size of a medical and sanitary section and the number of its component institutions depend on the nature of production and the number of employees at the enterprises it serves. The section is organized and financed by agencies of the public health system. The premises and equipment are provided by the industrial enterprise. The section furnishes basic medical care (hospital and outpatient treatment, first aid), provides services associated with preventive medicine (periodic checkups, clinical observation, and health education), and conducts thorough studies of work conditions and temporary disabilities.
