outer fix

[′au̇d·ər ′fiks] (navigation) A fix in the destination terminal area, other than the approach fix, to which aircraft are normally cleared by an air route traffic-control center or a terminal area traffic-control facility, and from which aircraft are cleared to the approach fix or final approach course.
