Kirov Kapo-Koreshok

Kirov Kapo-Koreshok

a type of decorative applied art that originated in the 1820’s and 1830’s and whose name derived from the region where it flourished (present-day Kirov Oblast). The craft consisted in the manufacture of polished boxes, cigarette cases, frames, and other articles from kapo-koreshok (root excrescence on deciduous trees at the base of the trunk). Products made from Kirov kapo-koreshok are golden in color and are distinguished by a distinctive sinuous grain (similar to that of malachite).
