Kirovgrad

(prior to December 1935, Kalata), a city (since 1932) in Sverdlovsk Oblast, RSFSR. Its railroad station, Ezhevaia, is the terminus on a 9-km branch of the Nizhnii Tagil-Sverdlovsk line. Population, 23,000 (1970). The major industries are a copper-smelting combine that includes mines, an ore-dressing factory, and a copper-smelting plant (founded in 1912) and a plant producing hard alloys. There is an evening mining and metallurgical technicum.
