MUC5B
MUC5B
A gene on chromosome 11p15.5 that encodes a member of the mucin family, which are highly glycosylated macromolecules found in mucus. MUC5B is the major gel-forming mucin in mucus, contributing to the lubricating and viscoelastic properties of saliva, tracheobronchial mucus and cervical mucus.Molecular pathology
MUC5B is upregulated and may be pathogenetically linked to chronic rhinosinusitis, nasal polyposis, COPD and H pylori-associated gastric disease.
