loop diuretics

Drugs that lead to a large output of water in the urine by interfering with the reabsorption of sodium and chloride in the loop of Henle tubules in the kidneys. They include FRUSEMIDE (furosemide) (Fru-Co, Frumil, Frusene, Frusol, Lasikal, Lasilactone, Lasix); BUMETANIDE (Burinex, Burinex A, Burinex K); and torasemide (Torem). Frusemide is commonly formulated in combination with the thiazide diuretic AMILORIDE.
