Kirishi

a city (until 1965, a settlement) in Leningrad Oblast, RSFSR, on the right bank of the Volkhov River. Railroad station on the Leningrad-Moscow line, 116 km southeast of Leningrad. Population, 27,000 (1970).

Kirishi has an oil refinery, built between 1961 and 1966, which processes petroleum supplied by the Al’met’evsk-Gorky-Iaroslavl’-Kirishi pipeline. A State Regional Electric Power Plant is located in the city. There is production of building materials. Kirishi also has enterprises of the food-processing industry and light industry.
