OujdaenUKOujdaorOudjda(both: o͞ojdä`), Arab. Ujda, city (1994 pop. 357,278), NE Morocco, near the Algerian border. It is a railroad junction, agricultural market, and commercial center. It was occupied by the French in 1844, 1859, and 1907.Oujdaa city in northeastern Morocco; the administrative, industrial, and transportation center of Oujda Province. Population, 175,500 (1971). A railroad and highway junction, Oujda has chemical, metalworking, woodworking, and food-processing enterprises. There is a local steam power plant, and in 1976 construction was under way on a cement plant. The city is served by a large airport. Mining industries in the vicinity of Oujda extract coal (at Jerada) and lead and zinc ores (at Bou Beker). There is also a lead-smelting plant. OujdaOujdaenUK
