Mtwara

a city in Tanzania; administrative center of the district of Mtwara. Population, 20,400 (1967); port on the Indian Ocean. Exports include cashews, sisal, peanuts, coconut palm products, and wood. Mtwara is the commercial center of an agricultural region. It has flour mills, hulling mills, and a cashew-cleaning plant.
