M-tropic strain

A strain of HIV-1 that infects macrophages and activated T cells, the entry of which is facilitated by CCR5 (a co-receptor for chemokines), RANTES, and MIP 1 alpha and MIP 1 beta; binding of these chemokines to CCR5 blocks the entry of M-tropic strains.
