media extender
media extender
(1) A device that receives multimedia data from the network and makes it available to the stereo or home theater system. It is known by many names (see digital media hub and Media Center Extender).(2) A device that transmits audio and video data from one location to one or more receivers. Either wired or wireless, it is designed to increase the distance between source and destination. A media extender differs from a general-purpose network because it guarantees bandwidth for the media types it supports and its audio/video port connectors. For example, a wireless HDMI extender enables high-definition video to be transmitted from an HDMI source to multiple HDMI destinations.
