Ornithogalum
Ornithogalum (star-of-Bethlehem), a genus of bulbous plants of the family Liliaceae. The leaves are linear or lorate with a whitish midrib. The flowers are trimerous and in racemose or corymbose inflorescences. The fruit is a capsule. There are approximately 150 species of Ornilhogalum, distributed primarily in the temperate zone of the eastern hemisphere. The USSR has about 25 species. Many species are grown as ornamentals in the open ground (O. umbellatum, O. latifolium) and in greenhouses (O. caudatum, O. thyrsoides).
