Mecistocirrus digitatus

A parasitic worm of the Family Trichostrongylidae, which is the only genus of the subfamily Haemonchinae (Mecistocirrhinae), that localises in the abomasum of ruminants. They are red to dark red, with a markedly attenuated, anteriorly tapered body. Males measure 17.0–19.0 mm in length, with 0.36–0.43-mm maximum width; females measure 16.0–40.0 mm in length, with 0.36–0.54-mm maximum width.
