Lee, Doris (b. Embrick)

(1905–86) painter; born in Aledo, Ill. She studied with Ernest Lawson at the Kansas City Art Institute (1928–29), and studied in Paris (1930). She began her work as an abstract painter, but after settling in Woodstock, N.Y., she focused on whimsical American narrative scenes, such as Thanksgiving (1936).
