Mamberamo (also Tarikaikea), a river in western New Guinea, Indonesia. It is more than 700 km long. The Mamberamo rises on the northern slopes of the Maoke Mountains. The upper course flows through a marshy plain and then cuts through the Van Rees Mountains in a series of rapids and water-falls. In its lower course the river flows along a marshy coastal plain. The Mamberamo flows into the Pacific Ocean, forming a delta. It is navigable 240 km from its mouth. |
