NEK1
NEK1
A gene on chromosome 4q33 that encodes a protein kinase which phosphorylates serines and threonines and has tyrosine kinase activity. NEK1 is thought to have a role in controlling meiosis and in cilia assembly, and it binds to SPERT. It is highly expressed in foetal brain and kidneys.Molecular pathology
Defects in NEK1 cause short rib-polydactyly syndrome type 2.
